The Alder Centre
How we support bereaved children
We have a team of counsellors who are all experienced and have received additional training in counselling children and young people. They are also specialisists in child bereament, loss and grief.
We work with children and young people on a one to one basis, or alongside their parents and/or siblings according to their needs. Individual support is usually offered for children aged four years and above, and therapeutic support for younger children will be offered by our team working collaboratively with parents and carers.
The length of the sessions can vary according to the needs and age of the individual, from 20 minutes to 60 minutes. The number of sessions offered is based on each individual's needs.
Our team works creatively drawing on a wide variety of resources to help bereaved children with their grief. These sessions usually take place at the Alder Centre and may include:
- Arts and crafts
- Sand play
- Therapeutic play
- Therapeutic music
- Talking therapy
Our team also offers support and training to organisations, including schools, affected by the loss of a child.
